A Plain-English Guide to Marketing Strategy, Conversion, and SEO in 2026

I’ve been auditing SME websites for over 19 years. The pattern I see most often is not bad design or broken code — it’s a website that looks functional but quietly fails at its actual job: generating enquiries and revenue.

Most of the sites I review have the same three problems. They run marketing activities without a strategy tying them together. Their visitors don’t convert, and nobody knows why. And they’re invisible in search — both on Google and increasingly in AI tools like ChatGPT and Gemini, where a growing share of commercial queries now land.

This post covers all three problems directly. No generic advice. No buzzword lists. Just what I’ve seen work and what we do about it at EbizIndia.

In this post

  1. The strategy problem: activity without direction
  2. The conversion problem: traffic that doesn’t turn into leads
  3. The visibility problem: SEO in 2026 means ranking and getting cited by AI
  4. Where to start if you’re not sure
  5. Frequently asked questions

1. The strategy problem: activity without direction

The single most common thing I hear from SME owners is some version of: “We’re doing SEO, we’re posting on Instagram, we ran some Google Ads last quarter — but nothing seems to stick.”

That’s not a marketing problem. That’s a strategy problem. The tactics exist, but there’s no documented framework connecting them to a specific audience, a realistic budget, or a measurable outcome.

What usually happens without a strategy

  • Marketing decisions get made week to week — boost this post, try that ad — with no data on what worked before.
  • The budget spreads thin across too many channels, none of which get enough investment to produce results.
  • Competitors who are doing fewer things but doing them consistently start pulling ahead in visibility and enquiries.
  • Three years pass and the brand is still essentially unknown — because no compounding has happened.

The uncomfortable bit. Most businesses spend more time deciding what to post this week than they spend thinking about where they want to be in 18 months. A documented strategy changes that ratio.

What a real marketing strategy actually contains

When we produce a Custom Marketing Strategy Report for a client, the document covers eight things:

  1. Business and product deep dive — your USP, pricing, customer journey, and current digital footprint are reviewed before a single recommendation is written.
  2. Competitor intelligence — who you’re actually competing with, what’s working for them, and the gaps you can move into.
  3. Audience persona mapping — specific profiles of your ideal buyers: where they are online, what they search for, what messaging shifts them.
  4. Channel strategy by priority — SEO, content, paid, social, email, WhatsApp, partnerships — ranked by ROI potential for your specific business and budget, not by what’s fashionable.
  5. 18-month phased roadmap — quick wins in the first phase, authority building in the second, scaling in the third.
  6. Budget allocation framework — how to split spend across channels for low, mid, and growth budgets.
  7. KPI dashboard — what to measure, when, and what good looks like.
  8. Content and SEO starter pack — topic clusters, keyword targets, and a content calendar structure your team can act on immediately.

The deliverable is a branded document you can share with your team, your agency, or a freelancer. It takes us seven business days to produce and we include one round of clarification via WhatsApp.

2. The conversion problem: traffic that doesn’t turn into leads

Here’s a scenario I see constantly. A business is getting a reasonable amount of traffic — maybe from SEO, maybe from ads — but enquiries are thin. The instinct is to spend more on traffic. The actual problem is almost always on the website itself.

Doubling your conversion rate halves your cost per acquisition. Fixing what happens after the click is usually faster and cheaper than buying more clicks.

Where most websites lose people

  • The first impression fails. A visitor can’t tell within five seconds what you do, who you do it for, and why you specifically. They leave.
  • The CTA is weak or buried. “Get in touch” at the bottom of a long page is not a call to action. It’s a polite request that gets ignored.
  • Forms ask for too much. Every extra field drops conversion. Name, email, and one specific question is almost always enough to start a sales conversation.
  • Trust signals are missing. No testimonials, no credentials, no guarantee, no faces. A visitor with no prior knowledge of you has no reason to take the risk.
  • Objections go unanswered. The page talks about what you offer. It doesn’t address why someone might hesitate to act — price, commitment, uncertainty about fit.
  • Mobile and speed break the experience. If the page takes four seconds to load on a phone and the CTA button is hard to tap, conversion dies before it starts.

A useful framing. Think of your website as a funnel with seven layers. Most sites have at least two or three layers that leak — silently, consistently, invisibly. You can’t fix what you haven’t mapped.

What the Conversion Architecture Review covers

The CAR (Conversion Architecture Review) is a structured audit across seven conversion layers:

  • Funnel mapping — every step from first impression to conversion, with drop-off points identified.
  • First impression and copy — does your headline communicate value in five seconds?
  • CTA and form review — visibility, friction, language, and field count.
  • Trust signal audit — what’s missing and what’s not pulling its weight.
  • Objection handling — cross-referenced against what your page currently addresses.
  • Mobile and page speed — does conversion hold up on a phone?
  • ROI-framed recommendations — every critical finding includes an estimated lead or revenue impact, so you know what each fix is worth before you build it.

The output is a polished HTML report with your Conversion Score, prioritised findings, and a 30-day implementation roadmap you can hand to a developer the day you receive it. A free 30-minute walkthrough call is included.

3. The visibility problem: SEO in 2026 means ranking and getting cited by AI

Search has changed materially in the last 18 months. Around 60% of Google searches now end without a click — users get their answer from Google’s AI overview and move on. A significant and growing share of commercial queries now go directly to ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity.

Traditional SEO is still essential. But it’s no longer sufficient on its own. If your site isn’t structured for AI citation — what’s called Answer Engine Optimisation (AEO) — you’re invisible in half the places your potential customers are now looking.

What AEO actually involves

  • AI crawler access — your robots.txt may be accidentally blocking GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, and others. If so, no AI tool can index you.
  • Bing indexation — ChatGPT primarily draws from the Bing index. If your site isn’t properly indexed on Bing, ChatGPT can’t cite you. This is the most consistently overlooked step I see.
  • Schema markup — structured data (Organisation, FAQPage, Article, BreadcrumbList) is how AI systems parse what your business is and what your content covers.
  • Content structure — 44% of AI citations come from the first 30% of a page’s text. Answers need to appear early. FAQ sections, clear headings, and short, direct answers increase citation likelihood.
  • llms.txt — a convention that tells AI crawlers what to read on your site and how to understand your content. Most SME sites don’t have one.
  • E-E-A-T signals — author bylines, an About page with actual credentials, and first-hand expertise are now active ranking signals. Generic AI-generated content without human expertise is actively losing ground.

March 2026 context Google’s March 2026 Core Update specifically decouples weak content from a strong domain — a high-authority domain no longer protects poor-quality individual pages within it. The March 2026 Spam Update (the fastest ever, completed in under 20 hours) targeted AI-generated content without human expertise, parasitic SEO, and link spam. If your rankings have shifted recently, this is the most likely cause.

4. Where to start if you’re not sure

If you’re recognising your own website in more than one section above, the question is usually: which problem do I fix first?

  • Getting traffic but no enquiries? Start with the Conversion Architecture Review. More traffic into a broken funnel is just more waste.
  • Traffic is low and you’re not ranking? Start with the SEO + AEO Audit. Understand your current visibility before you spend on improving it.
  • Spending on marketing with no clear picture of what’s working? Start with the Marketing Strategy Report. It gives you the framework that makes every other activity coherent.

If you’re unsure which applies to you, call me directly on +91-98310 27107. No gatekeepers, no sales script — a five-minute conversation is usually enough to identify the right starting point.

All three reports carry a 100% money-back guarantee. If you feel the report doesn’t deliver real value for your specific business, tell us within 7 days of delivery. Your entire payment comes back — no partial refunds, no credits.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a marketing strategy report if I already do some SEO and social media?

Yes. Running tactics without a documented strategy means every activity is disconnected from a measurable outcome. The report links each channel to your specific audience, budget, and business goals so you stop guessing and start measuring.

What is a Conversion Architecture Review?

It’s a structured audit of every step between a visitor landing on your site and taking the desired action, such as an enquiry, purchase, or signup. It identifies exactly where visitors drop off and why, then gives you a prioritised 30-day fix plan with ROI estimates for each critical finding.

What is AEO, and why does it matter?

AEO stands for Answer Engine Optimisation — structuring your content so AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity can cite your website in their answers. Around 60% of Google searches now end without a click, so appearing in AI-generated answers is as important as ranking on Google.

How is the SEO + AEO audit different from a standard SEO audit?

A standard SEO audit covers rankings and on-page factors. The SEO + AEO audit also checks whether AI platforms can crawl and cite you — including your robots.txt for AI bot access, your Bing indexation (which feeds ChatGPT), your schema markup, your llms.txt file, and your E-E-A-T signals.

What do these reports cost, and is there a guarantee?

The SEO + AEO Audit and the Conversion Architecture Review are both ₹5,000 + GST. The Marketing Strategy Report is at an introductory price of ₹5,000 + GST (down from ₹10,000). All three carry a 100% money-back guarantee within 7 days of delivery.

Do I need to give you Google Search Console or Analytics access?

No. The SEO + AEO audit and the Conversion Architecture Review work entirely from what’s publicly visible — the same view Google, ChatGPT, and Perplexity have of your site. No backend access required.
